More Block level style control in Drag and Drop editor

Is it possible to have block level control over the background color of a block while staying in the drag and drop editor? (I know you can if you convert the template over to freelance but we don't want to do that because we like the block level security on the drag and drop)

Primarily we'd like to be able to adjust the background color on different columns when multiple columns are used.
