Setting Default Value to Blank/Empty for a Picklist Field on Web Content

We have a picklist field on a web content that is required.  We want to be able to set this to a blank value as the default and force the user to choose something.

Currently it defaults to the first value if you try and choose blank (I found a workaround, but it is 'unsupported').  We do not want it to default to the first value because the user may just overlook it.
