Bring data from related records in Email Template

There are a few posts on Click Dimensions blog which tells us how to bring related records data (1:N) dynamically in an Email Template. However, none of the solutions is an efficient repeatable process. The two options that Click Dimensions provide is using

  1. Connections
  2. Lookup

Limitation to Connections solution is that you have to connect all related records to your Email Send using connections. So, if you are sending a summary of Active Cases to your customers using an Email Campaign and assuming there are 200 Active Cases associated to 50 customers in your CRM, you will have to connect all 200 cases to Email Send record and then somehow identify Cases that belong to corresponding Customers in your Email Template using FreeMarker (I am not sure how to achieve this). In my Email Template all 50 Customers were getting a list of all 200 Cases in their email.

Limitation to Lookup solution is that you have to create a Lookup for each record that you are bringing the data from. So, if Customer A has 10 Cases associated, you will have to create 10 lookup fields on Contact/Account entity and manually select Cases in each lookup. In addition, if Customer B has 20 Cases, you will have to create 10 more lookups on Contact/Account entity.

None of the solutions is efficient options to bring related data. A new innovative approach is a must have.
